Bogue’s Compounds
The raw materials used to manufacture cement are lime, silica, alumina, and iron oxide. These raw materials interact in the kiln, forming complex chemical compounds. Calcination in the kiln restructures the molecular composition, producing four main compounds. They are known as Bogue compounds. Le-Chatelier and Tornebohm have referred these compounds as Alite (C3S), Belite (C2S), Celite (C3A) and Felite (C4AF).
