PLACEMENT
(i) It is an important human resource activity.

(ii) Placement is the actual posting of an employee to a specific job.

(iii) It involves assigning a specific rank and responsibility to an employee.

 (iv) The placement decisions are taken by the line manager after matching the requirements a job with the qualifications of a candidate.

(v) Most organisation put new recruits on probation for a given period of time, after which the service are confirmed.

(vi) During this period, the performance of the probationer is closely monitored. If the new recru fails to adjust himself to the job and turns out poor performance, the organisation m consider his name for placement elsewhere.

(vii) To this end, new recruits must be oriented properly so that they become productive contributos 

(viii) When new employees know what is expected of them they have better organization performance and less frustration and uncertainty.. absenteeism

(ix) If placement is neglected, it may create employee adjustment problems leading to turnover, accidents, poor performance etc.

(x) Proper placement is, therefore, important to both the employee and the organisation.

INDUCTION

According to R.P. Billimoria, induction or orientation is, "a technique by which a new employee is rehabilitated into the changed surroundings and introduced to the practices, policies and purposes of the organisation."

 Objectives of Induction

(a) Removes fears: A new comer steps into an organisation as a stranger. He is new to the people, workplace and work environment. Induction helps a new employee overcome such fears and perform better on the job. It assist him in knowing more about:

The job, its content, policies, rules and regulations.

(ii) The people with whom he is suppose to interact.

(iii) The terms and conditions of employment.

(b) Creates a good impression: Another purpose of induction is to make the new comer feel at home and develop sense of pride in the organization.

 (c) Acts as a valuable source of information: Induction serves as a valuable source of information

to new recruits. The basic purpose of induction is to communicates specific job requirements to the employee put him at case and make him feel confident about his abilities.

 TRAINING

Training is a process of learning a sequence of programmed behaviour. It is application of knowledge. It gives people an awareness of the rules and procedures to guide their behaviour. It attempts to
improve their performance on the current job or prepare them for an intended job.

 Importance of Training

1. Training makes employees to develop and rise within the organization and increase their earning capacity.

2. Trained workers enable the enterprise to face competition from rival organization. 

3. Training moulds the employees attitudes and helps them to achieve better corporation with the organization.

4. Trained workers need lesser supervision.

 5. Trained employees make better economic use of materials and equipment resulting in reduction of wastage and spoilage.

6. Training leads to job satisfaction and high morale of the employees.
